4th of July in November

Since we moved here at the beginning of July, we, unfortunately, missed the festivities of the 4th of July. To compensate, the Omanis planned a celebration just for us! Ok, so it wasn't really just for us. November 18th was the day the Sultan took power over from dear old dad back in 1970, and November 19th is the Sultan's birthday. What better reasons for a party, right? To commemorate the special occasions, there were beautiful lights up and down the major freeway (yes, there is just the one freeway) and pictures of the Sultan on every overpass. Then, there was a pretty good display of fireworks that we could see from our roof. Jason was kind enough to take pictures of the event, while our photographer friend and I shouted helpful hints of advice on how to take just the right picture. I am sure he was very appreciative of the back seat driving!
