Byron Bay

A couple of weekends ago, we took a day trip to Byron Bay, in an effort to get out of the tiny temporary apartment we were staying in. (But never fear . . .we moved into our house a week ago! Yippee!) Byron Bay has some pretty nice beaches, but I am still disappointed that we haven't seen some major rip curls yet. Isn't that what Australian beaches are known for?! Yea, yea . . .gotta go further south. I know. Anyway, while we were there, we took a pretty decent hike up to the most eastern tip of the Australian mainland. It was a beautiful day, and we got to look down on some dolphins and saw a whale a little further out to sea. Then, of course, there is the obligatory lighthouse picture that you have to take. And on the walk back through the city to the car, you just have to laugh at the concept of the Aussies having world famous anything related to Mexican food. Silly Aussies!

Our New House!

Thought some of you might want to see what we will be living in for the next couple of years. The furniture starts arriving tomorrow, so hopefully we will be able to move in within the next week and a half, once our Oman stuff is done with its 10 day quarantine period. (Yes, I said 10 days of quarantine because a 5 week trip in the middle of the ocean in 45 degree weather wouldn't have killed everything, right?) It's a cute little house that we probably wouldn't buy for ourselves, but it should treat us right. (And I can't really complain since it comes without the lime green bathroom of the old Oman house!) This house has some good little living spaces, especially outdoors. And with the weather being pretty good all year round, we should really enjoy it. I think the best part of the house, though, is the dumb waiter!! Yes, we have a dumb waiter that can bring stuff up from the kitchen to the upstairs tv room/upstairs balcony. What can be better than that! The house also comes with a very small pool, which I look at as more of a maintenance headache than anything else. But what can you do. And last of all, if you go up on the roof . . .there is another balcony with a fantastic view of the city!
