Tanzania Part 1
Well, we just got back from a fantastic trip to Tanzania. We figured, since we are on this side of the world for the time being,
we should see as much as we possibly can . . . so we planned a photo safari to Africa! There are so many photos to show you (Jason took about 2500 pictures!), but I promise I won't put you through all of that. I will post several blogs about our trip, though, so you can get a good feel of what we did and saw. The pictures on this first blog were all taken at our first stop, Ngorongoro Crater. Well, actually, that wasn't exactly our first stop. We flew from Muscat to Dar As Salaam. Then, took a 6 seater puddle jumper for an hour and a half to the city of Arusha. And just to acknowledge how ignorant and naive I am, I would have never in a million years guessed that this city, Arusha, in the middle of Tanzania, would be big enough to have 1.3 million people living there. It is just amazing to me to think there are these places all over the world I have never heard of that have that many people. It just shows you the things I still have to l
earn. We stayed 1 night in a hotel in Arusha that looked just like something Hemmingway would write about. Then, we boarded a 20 seater puddle jumper to Ngorongoro, followed by a 2 hour drive to the crater. The point being . . . it was a heck of a time trying to get there! In any event, we made it. Ngorongoro crater is the remnants of an old volcano that apparently imploded. Today, it houses a bunch of animals year round, especially zebras and wildebeests. I must say that it is pretty funny to go to arrive at a place and be so amazed at the sight of a zebra. And then, by the next day, to have seen so many zebras that you couldn't be bothered looking at them any more. It is pretty funny how
easily it is to take them for granted. Our accomodations at the crater were absolutely fantastic. Jason planned this whole trip and did a good job of putting together a vacation that would spoil me! Let's just say that we had a butler that set a fire in our fireplace and drew us a bath after our tough afternoon of animal viewing! In any event, more great pictures to come, but for now, you will have to live with the image of a face that only a mother could love . . . the wildebeest!
